Lexxi Gonzalez, Sairah Stevens May 8th,2019 School ShootingsIn this generation, kids grow up to fear school shootings more than they need to because of how frequently they happen and it's only getting worse. School shootings are such a normality that people have said that they are unpreventable, which is not true and is not acceptable. There are laws already being used to prevent school shootings, like they’re going to increase the age of when you can buy firearms. For example the Sandy Hook and the Stoneman Douglas were two of the worst school shootings and the shooters were below the drinking age. Columbine School Massacre: At Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, on April 20, 1999. The Columbine shooting was the very first school shooting to ever occur. Two high school seniors Dylan Klebold and Erick Harris enacted an all-out assault at Columbine High School. The two boys had the plan to kill hundreds of their peers with guns, knives, and bombs. The boys ended up killing twelve students and one teacher before killing themselves. It was one of the most tragic events to happen in Colorado to this day, leaving families traumatized for losing their loved ones. It started at approximately at 11: 19 AM. They began the shooting outside and then eventually took the students into the library where most of the victims were gunned down. Columbine will be marked in the U.S history for a long time in remembrance of those we lost. Sandy Hook School:Sandy Hook was an elementary school shooting that took place in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14, 2012. The shooter Adam Lanza killed his mother at their home and then killed 20 children and 6 adults from the school Sandy Hook it was the most deadliest and brutal school shootings in U.S history. He started the attack at the house he shared with his mother Nancy Lanza, she was shot four times with a .22 caliber rifle. He then grabbed the other guns that his mother had purchased and headed down to the elementary school, a public school for kindergarten through fourth grade to continue his rampage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXAXBUPHHKIStoneman Douglas School: On February 14, 2018 the Broward sheriff's office and the school district failed that day and lost many lives because of it. Security monitor Andrew Medina who was unlocking the gates 20 minutes before school let out saw Nikolas Cruz walk through the gate with a rifle bag and didn't stop him and didn’t notify anyone. Even though he recognized Cruz as a former student that they referred to as the crazy boy who was most likely to shoot up the school Medina failed to act on it. He radioed another monitor but didn’t go up to Cruz and doesn’t call a code red to lock the school down. Andrew Medina wasn’t even supposed to have that job (school investigators predicted that he would be fired for sexual harrassing students but they overruled it). The second chance to call a code red was passed when a freshman walked into the first floor stairwell and saw Cruz loading his gun. Cruz warned him things are going to get messy and warned him to get out of there. The freshman then notified Aaron Feis, the football coach, that there was someone with a gun as he leaves the building.
