February 26, 2019 Alysia Pollock, Lexxus Gonzalez, & Espy Duran Febuary 26,2019 The Evolution of EDMMusic has definitely changed over time; it went from the earliest form of music of just making a beat with rocks and sticks to different genres like EDM (Electronic dance music). EDM is a combination of house, drum n’ bass, dubstep, trap and hardstyle. It also originated from the disco genre. It’s normally in a club like scene and has been around since the 1980s. Early 20th century- Delia Derbyshire was one of the first electronic music producers and synthesists of her time. Her revolutionary “Doctor Who Theme” and seminal album of 1969. Her production material and influences of sound for television and radio programs are in the BBC sound archives, but because of copyrights she wasn’t properly credited for her work. The 70s was the birth of disco, the first wave of club music was made. There was now a demand and popularity that came with clubs employing dj’s, it turned into a club must have. Electronic artists like Kraftwerk and Donna Summer incorporated early electro and house, using Roland TR-808s,TR-909 drum machines and Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer. This type of genre is usually for teenagers and young adults, because this type of music pumps people up and gets their adrenaline going. These festivals are very big and they surface all around the world. Some huge festivals are Coachella in California, Tomorrowland in Belgium, Electric Forest in Michigan, and many more just like. The tickets can sometimes be expensive, but they are worth it because they can come with decorative boxes or an extra something or include your stay. They sell merchandise and food and have free water fountains.

February 15, 2019 Philip Bustillos, Kolby Vigil, & Arath Valdez Febuary 15, 2019 The Superbowl Halftime ShowFebruary is a month of many things to note, the first holiday that should come to mind is the day of love: Valentines day. Where the loving couples of the world are celebrated and the lonely hearts despair over a contrived expectation of social norms. Black History is also a large part of the month brought upon by Carter G. Woodson and President Gerald Ford so that the appreciation for influential black historical figures would become common knowledge for all generations. However rather recently another event has bled into this month of love and diversity. Since 2002, the month of love has been invaded by the high testosterone-ball throwing-touchdown making-state uniting- SuperBowl. For nearly two decades, the Super Bowl has been seen by hundreds of millions of the American populous and the excitement for the “Big Game” has steadily been growing as new fans are constantly being introduced this yearly event. However, even with all the football, fans, wings, beer, and million dollar advertisement deals, the Super Bowl holds one more attraction to reel in a bigger crowd: The Halftime Show. Amidst the high flying testosterone, the halftime show seems to have a good track record of keeping most people entertained, however, in the pursuit of engaging everyone, they could lose a lot more.
Popular figures and pop groups recently have been reeled into performing much more in these recent years and one could argue in can only so much of a job at keeping people entertained and hyped up for the next two quarters of the game left. Although it is difficult to gain a wide knowledge of audience reaction, based on the opinions of other Super Bowl Fans the halftime show has seemed to be an excuse to use the bathroom, see the advertisements, or check up on the puppy bowl again. This year's halftime show seemed to just monumentally suck according to audiences. The dishonorable highlights include: Maroon 5 gradually taking Nickelback's torch of “Worst Band Ever” and Sicko Mode. What really got a reaction out of people was the fake out tease of a fan voted favorite song. “Sweet Victory” is an original song by David Glen Eisley shown to a mass audience through Spongebob Squarepants episode “Band Geeks”. The song did such an amazing job at connecting to audiences that when the creator of the show, Stephen Hillenburg passed away, fans managed a petition to have the song be performed Super Bowl LIII. We went around to the other students to hear their opinion on the matter. One student said “I think is was pretty underwhelming honestly, I don’t think Maroon 5 is the best stage man they had Prince I mean last year when they had Coldplay. It was really underwhelming I feel it has just gone down in recent years (Mentions creator death) I thought it was funny I don’t really think it was that bad.” |
